"In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, And my refuge, is in God.Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us." ~ Psalm 62:7-8, NKJV
This time of year always requires a little extra courage on my part. It's that season of change for our family from summer break rhythms to the quicker pace of a school schedule. But this time around has been a little much to say the least. Ok, it has been a jarring shock to the system in more ways than one. Maybe I'm the only one. Maybe it's just my personality that finds comfort in effective routines. Or maybe it's just the fact that change, on any level and on any scale, generates significant challenges. It is often said that change is the only constant in life. And while there may be some truth to that old adage, I think the Bible gives us a greater hope.
God Himself is "the same yesterday, today, and forever" (Heb. 13:8).
David experienced more than his share of upheaval and unmet expectations, and when he found himself overwhelmed, feeling like he was on the fringes of God's favor, he resolved to look to God as his "rock of strength," the unchanging source of steadiness that he could trust in "at all times" (Ps. 62:8). Writing to a people taken into captivity, a people whose national identity was devastated and spiritual hopes dashed, the prophet Jeremiah assured mourning hearts that the Lord's "compassions never fail" and that "they are new every morning" (Lam. 3:22-23, NIV).
Friends, there's never a day that we are not recipients of God's great mercy and faithfulness. Are you navigating a season of transition? Say "yes" to the invitation to trust in Him at all times, even these changing times. It will always be the right time to trust in God as our refuge and rock of strength. He is the steadfast One in all of life's unsteadiness. Sure, we may experience change constantly, change that comes with varying degrees of magnitude, uncertainty, or even opportunity. Whatever upheaval we may be enduring or even anticipating, let's commit ourselves to the God who is unchanging.
